Meet Our Newest Team Member: Niabi Kapoor

In the late nineteenth century, answering lists of questions was a popular parlour game among Victorians. French writer, Marcel Proust, answered a list of questions posed to him by his friend Antoinette. Since then, Proust’s answers have been published, in one form or another, for more than a century. Many have used the Proust Questionnaire in various formats, the most notable being Vanity Fair’s version posed to various celebrities.

Taking a break from the typical interview process and article, we’ve put our own spin on the Proust Questionnaire to introduce you to our newest team member, Niabi Kapoor, who, as Content Creator, will be putting her writing and creative skills to work generating ideas, and researching and writing fresh and engaging content that helps us tell more of the stories of the people and organizations in the Biosphere.

Get to Know Niabi Kapoor, Content Creator

Hometown? Edmonton 

Greatest educational achievement? Taking my time to complete my English & Spanish Bachelor's degree. I had the chance to study abroad in Cuba for a month, complete a Translation certificate, and a 1-year Communications co-op with the Faculty of Arts, while still having time to volunteer and have a vibrant social life during post-secondary. These are now lifelong friendships! 

Favorite color and flower? Mauve, poppies. 

Favorite outdoor pastime? Camping 

Where would you like to live? This changes regularly, but right now, I want to live in Istanbul or Montreal. 

Greatest professional achievement? My top professional achievement is moving abroad to teach English for 4 and half years in Madrid, Spain, and finally becoming fluent in Spanish. Another moment I am very proud of was working as a freelance editor for an illustration magazine abroad and seeing my name printed and published in it for the first time! 

Best thing that ever happened to you? Being healthy is the best thing that has ever happened to me! 

Mentors? My mentors are my parents and my sister. 

What drives you? I am driven by a sense of gratitude for the opportunities, privilege, and love that I have been given in my life. I am intent on using these blessings as a foundation to add good to the world in whichever way possible. 

What do you most appreciate in a co-worker? Someone who is considerate, attentive, and brings positive energy to the workplace. I also really appreciate co-workers who can laugh at themselves. 

Stewardship philosophy? “The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man.” This quote embodies my stewardship philosophy. I feel that it is essential that we preserve nature in its unrearranged state as often as we can. 

Reason for accepting the Content Creator position? I want to grow as a writer and facilitate positive change through my writing. The Content Creator position was the perfect opportunity to do both. I feel so lucky to be a part of this organization. 

What’s next? Great question! I am still figuring that out. I have a huge list of activities I want to do, places I want to see, things I want to create, and people I want to visit. I’m working my way at it slowly.
